Microsoft announces new South African data centers

Microsoft announced yesterday the imminent arrival of 2 new Office 365 / Azure data centers in South Africa. This is a big deal for us at Databias and we are very happy to be able to announce this exciting news.

The new data centers will be located in Johannesburg and Cape Town respectively and will provide an extension to the current global 365 cloud. In addition, the new data centers would facilitate the availability of Azure services to sub-Saharan countries providing for localised cloud servers and associated services.

The new data centers should go a long way in assuring African businesses that Microsoft is committed to providing solid cloud services to the African continent at large. South Africa’s new POPI act will need to specify whether or not data stored in these facilities meets the criteria required for the protection of information under South African law.
